Can I upgrade the SYNC^®* system to a newer SYNC system?

An older SYNC system cannot be upgraded to a newer one because they use different hardware that cannot be exchanged.

• SYNC 4 cannot be upgraded to SYNC 4A.
• SYNC 3 cannot be upgraded to SYNC 4 or 4A.
• SYNC with MyFord Touch cannot be upgraded to SYNC 3.

Note: While you cannot upgrade to a newer SYNC generation, you can still update the software version. To see if your SYNC system is operating on the latest version, visit the SYNC and Navigation Updates page, enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), and select Check for update.
