2023 Ford Super Duty® — Rear Axle Shaft Safety Recall
Recall Reference Number: 23S49
The safety of you and your passengers is of utmost importance. That is why we are issuing a recall on the rear-axle shaft on certain F-250® and F-350® Super Duty trucks built between March 20, 2023, and August 21, 2023.
The left rear-axle shaft may break, resulting in a loss of mobility and inability to keep the vehicle in park. If the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may move, increasing the risk of injury or crash. The affected trucks are equipped with single rear wheels and a 10.5-inch rear-axle shaft.
A fractured rear-axle shaft may cause noise and/or a loss of motion in two-wheel drive operation. You can book an appointment online or in your FordPass® App with participating dealers or contact your local Concesionario Ford.

What is the issue tied to this recall?
The left rear-axle shaft may break due to being manufactured without properly completing the heat treatment process. This could result in a loss of motion and inability to hold the vehicle in park.
What is the cause of the issue?
The supplier entered an incorrect process parameter into one of the machines performing electromagnetic induction heat treatment of the left rear-axle shafts.

Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford Dealer or Lincoln Retailer to have the left rear-axle shaft inspected. Those with a suspect date code will be replaced.
Will customers have any warning if this issue occurs?
The driver may first hear a noise from the rear-axle or experience power loss when the vehicle is in two-wheel drive. If this happens on a vehicle equipped with four-wheel drive, shifting into four-wheel drive will restore mobility.

F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks built between March 20, 2023, and August 21, 2023, equipped with single rear wheels and a 10.5-inch rear-axle shaft.
When will you notify customers?
We will begin sending letters out to customers in late October.
Will there be a charge to customers?
No, customers will not be charged for service.
