How Do I Use the Tire Inflator and Sealing Kit on My Ford Vehicle?

A tire puncture within the tire's tread area can be sealed in two stages with the tire inflator and sealant kit:

  1. First Stage: Reinflating the tire with sealant compound and air
  2. Second Stage: Checking the tire pressure

Note: Instructions may vary. To ensure safe operation of the kit, read all instructions as outlined in your Owner's Manual. The Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit information can be located under Wheels and Tires or Temporary Mobility Kit in your Manual del Propietario.

Warning: Do not use the kit if you have severely damaged a tire. Only seal punctures located within the tire tread with the kit.

Where to get replacement sealant canisters

The temporary mobility kit contains enough sealant compound in the canister for one tire repair only. See your authorized dealer for replacement sealant canisters.

First Stage: Reinflating the tire with sealing compound and air

  1. Park your vehicle in a safe area, away from moving traffic.
  2. Turn the hazard lights on.
  3. Aplica el freno de mano.
  4. Leave the engine running in a well-ventilated area.
  5. Remove the warning label showing the maximum permissible speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) from the side of the compressor.
  6. Place it on the top of the instrument panel or the center of the dash.
  7. Pull out the hose and the power plug with cable from beneath the kit.
  8. Unscrew the sealant bottle cap. Do not remove or puncture the seal on the bottle.

  9. Unscrew the orange cap.
    Unscrew the orange cap
  10. Screw the sealant bottle clockwise into the bottle holder unit fully tight.
    • Note: Attaching the sealant bottle to the compressor pierces the seal. Do not loosen the bottle as the sealant could escape.

  11. Remove the valve cap from the damaged tire.
  12. Make sure that the compressor switch is in the OFF position and the pressure release valve is closed by turning it fully clockwise.

  13. Pull the protective cap from the hose. Fasten the hose to the tire valve by turning the connector clockwise. Tighten the connection securely.
  14. Plug the 12 volt DC power point connector into the 12 volt DC socket in the vehicle.
  15. Start the engine.
  16. Switch the compressor on.
    Turn compressor on
  17. Inflate the tire for no longer than 15 minutes to an inflation pressure of a minimum of 26 psi (1.8 bar) and a maximum of 51 psi (3.5 bar). Move the compressor switch to the OFF position and check the current tire pressure with a pressure gauge.
    • Note: If the tire inflation pressure does not reach 26 psi (180 kPa) within 15 minutes, the tire may have suffered
  18. Remove the power plug from the 12-volt power point.
  19. Unscrew the hose from the tire valve and put the protective cap back in place. Replace the valve cap on the tire valve. Do not remove the sealant bottle from the compressor. This avoids leakage of sealant residue.
  20. Make sure the kit, the bottle lid, and the orange cap are stored safely in your vehicle. The kit will be required again when you check the tire pressure after driving the vehicle a short distance.
  21. Drive the vehicle 3.7 mi (6 km) to distribute the sealant evenly inside the tire. Do not exceed 50 mph (80 km/h).
  22. After 4 mi (6 km), stop and check the tire pressure.

Note: If you experience any unusual vibration, ride disturbance, or noise while driving, reduce your speed until you can safely pull off to the side of the road to call for roadside assistance at 800-241-3673.

Second Stage: Checking the tire pressure

  1. Remove the valve cap from the tire valve.
Remove valve cap from tire valve
  2. Firmly screw the air compressor hose onto the valve stem by turning clockwise.
  3. With the compressor off, the gauge of the kit will display the tire inflation pressure.
    • Note: If you are proceeding from the First stage: Reinflating the tire with sealing compound and air section and have injected sealant in the tire and the pressure is below 20 psi (1.4 bar), stop and call roadside assistance. If tire pressure is above 20 psi (1.4 bar), continue to the next step.
  4. If required, turn on the compressor and adjust the tire to the recommended inflation pressure shown on the tire label located on the driver's door or door jamb area. The tire pressure should be checked with the compressor turned OFF in order to get an accurate pressure reading.
  5. Unscrew the compressor hose from the valve stem and re-install the valve cap. Leaving the sealant bottle attached to the compressor unit, safely store in your vehicle the tire sealant and inflator kit, the bottle lid, and the orange cap.

Once you've repaired the tire, drive to your nearest Concesionario Ford to get a tire repair or replacement.
