How often should I replace the spark plugs in my engine?

Spark plug replacement guidelines vary by vehicle. For information specific to your vehicle, refer to the "Capacities and Specifications" section of your Owner's Manual.

You may need to replace them sooner to avoid damage to your engine if you notice your vehicle:

• Has its check engine light on.
• Requires more fuel than normal.
• Idles roughly and is louder than normal.
• Accelerates slowly.
• Has difficulty starting.

When replacing a spark plug, knowing the right spark plug gap is important for vehicle maintenance. The gap setting is different for each vehicle and if set incorrectly, can lead to engine issues. 

The spark plug gap setting, as well as the Motorcraft^®* part number for your spark plugs, can be found in the "Capacities and Specifications" section of your Owner's Manual. 

Important: You should replace your spark plugs with ones that meet Ford material and design specifications for your vehicle, such as Motorcraft or equivalent replacement parts. Your warranty may be void for any damage to the engine if proper spark plugs are not used.
