F-150 Lightning Intelligent Backup Power Information

F-150 Lightning Intelligent Backup Power Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ford Intelligent Backup Power y how does it work?

Making its debut in the F-150 Lightning, Ford Intelligent Backup Power, a form of bi-directional power, turns your truck into the ultimate backup generator for your house. It can also help mitigate the effects of scheduled outages or rolling blackouts, powering your home even as your house goes off the grid. If your F-150 Lightning is plugged in when an outage occurs, Ford Intelligent Backup Power automatically kicks in to power your home. When power is restored, your truck will automatically revert to its planned charge schedule.

How much power does the F-150 Lightning generate with Ford Intelligent Backup Power?

With the ability to offboard up to 9.6 kilowatts of energy, the F-150 Lightning can provide full-home power for up to three days on a fully charged battery. It can even last as long as 10 days if you ration that power.

How many days can I power my home with the F-150 Lightning?

With the F-150 Lightning and a full charge, an average home that uses 30 kilowatt-hours per day could be fully powered for about three days.  With some changes to consumption, that could be a week. Theoretically, the house could be powered in this way for more than 10 days.

Will Intelligent Backup Power only work at your home?

It will work wherever the Ford Charge Station Pro and ‘home installation set-up’ is established, so this could be your home or place of work.

How will the Sunrun collaboration help you?

Ford is teaming up with solar company Sunrun to facilitate easy installation of the Ford Charge Station Pro, home inverter, and home integration system that enables Intelligent Backup Power. Through this collaboration, you will also have the opportunity to purchase solar energy installations, enabling you to step further into the world of alternative energy and potentially charge your truck with the power of the sun.

Can I do the installation myself?

We recommend the installation be done by our suggested collaborators or another licensed electrician.

Who pays for the cost of installation?

You are responsible for home installation costs.
